Feeling Stuck, Overwhelmed, or Disconnected? You’re Not Alone.

Many people come to individual therapy because something inside feels “off,” even if life looks fine on the outside. In San Francisco, the pace can be intense—work demands, high expectations, relationship stress, isolation, and constant pressure to keep up. Over time, your nervous system may stay in survival mode, and your emotional world can start to feel smaller.

If you’re experiencing any of the following, therapy can help:

  • Persistent stress, worry, or racing thoughts

  • Feeling numb, disconnected, or emotionally shut down

  • Trouble sleeping, relaxing, or feeling at ease

  • Relationship patterns that leave you feeling unseen or unsafe

  • A sense of grief, loss, or life transition you can’t quite move through

  • Trauma symptoms that show up in your body, mood, or sense of self

You don’t have to wait until things “get worse” to ask for help. Therapy can be a steady place to breathe, feel supported, and start healing.

What Is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy is a private, supportive space where you can explore what you’re going through with a trained therapist who is on your side. It’s not about being “fixed.” It’s about being understood—and learning new ways to care for yourself, process pain, and build the life you deserve.

A space to heal, process, and grow

In therapy, you can talk about what feels hard, what you’ve been carrying, and what you want to change. Together, you and your therapist will build clarity and momentum—at a pace that feels safe.

What therapy can help you do?

Individual therapy often helps clients:

  • Reduce anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm

  • Understand patterns in thoughts, feelings, and relationships

  • Process past experiences that still feel “present”

  • Strengthen self-esteem and self-trust

  • Develop healthier coping tools and emotional regulation

  • Create boundaries, communicate clearly, and feel more connected

Reconnect with hope, meaning, and a sense of inner steadiness

Our Approach at Calm Again Counseling

At Calm Again Counseling, we believe healing happens when you feel safe, seen, and supported—while also receiving treatment that is grounded in proven methods.

Trauma-informed care, tailored to you

Trauma-informed therapy means we prioritize emotional safety. We go at your pace. We respect your boundaries. We help you build internal stability before pushing into anything that feels too much.

Our practice is also LGBTQIA2SP+ and BIPOC affirming, and we are committed to providing inclusive, culturally sensitive care where your identity is honored.

Evidence-based therapy options

Your therapist will tailor the approach to your goals and what your nervous system needs. Depending on fit and preference, therapy may include:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to shift unhelpful thought patterns and build practical coping tools

  • EMDR to support trauma processing and reduce distress

  • IFS (Internal Family Systems) to help you understand inner parts, soften self-criticism, and build self-leadership

  • Somatic Experiencing to support nervous system regulation and healing that includes the body

  • Brainspotting for deeper emotional processing and integration

You don’t need to choose the “right” modality on your own. We’ll guide you.

What to Expect in Your First Sessions

It’s normal to feel nervous before your first appointment. You don’t need to have everything figured out—or know exactly what to say.

In early sessions, your therapist will help you:

  • Clarify what’s bringing you in and what you want to change

  • Explore your history and the patterns that feel most painful

  • Identify what helps you feel safe and supported in therapy

  • Set goals and create a plan that feels realistic and compassionate

Sessions are typically 45 minutes. Longer sessions may be arranged when clinically appropriate, especially for certain trauma-focused approaches.

Fees, Insurance, and Superbills

Calm Again Counseling is a private pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide superbills for clients with PPO plans who may be eligible for partial reimbursement, depending on their coverage.

If you have questions about fees, superbills, or what to expect financially, we’ll walk you through it during your consultation.

You may also be eligible for a Good Faith Estimate under the No Surprises Act. If you’d like more information, our team can help.
